Powerful portraits of politicians, musicians, actors and other well-known personalities including a model and a professional golfer are the subject of “TIMOTHY GREENFIELD-SANDERS: THE LATINO LIST,” an exhibition that opens Friday at the Brooklyn Museum. In addition to large-format color photographs, the show will include excerpts from a documentary, also called “The Latino List,” which is scheduled to be shown Sept. 29 on HBO.

Mr. Greenfield-Sanders, a photographer known for his powerful portraits of celebrities and artists that often appear in Vanity Fair, is also wearing the director’s hat for the HBO documentary, which explores what it means to a Latino-American today. Both the exhibition and the documentary are a sequel to “The Black List Project,” a traveling exhibition that was on view at the Brooklyn Museum in 2008 and centered around what it means to be an African-American in contemporary society. “The Black List Project” was a two-part program, also on HBO.

At the museum the “Latino List” will delve into the individual and diverse stories of personalities like the actresses Eva Longoria and America Ferrera as well as other kinds of public figures like Justice Sonia Sotomayor of the Supreme Court and Senator Robert Menendez of New Jersey.
