Academia Cuauhtli Graduation

The children of Academia Cuauhtli sing “Aguila” to welcome Consuelo…

Hi, everyone! It’s me, KC, Consuelo’s eldest daughter. I’ll be writing a quick post highlighting our latest trip to Austin, TX…

On May 2nd, Consuelo was the featured speaker during the closing ceremony of events for the first graduating class of the Cuauhtli Academy. The event was held at The Mexican American Cultural Center in Austin.

To kick off the event, we watched a Danza Mexica, or Mexican folk dance. Many of the dancers were children from the Academy who learned traditional Mexican folk dances as part of the Academia Cuauhtli program.

And I must say, the event organizers could not have picked a more perfect day — the weather was gorgeous!

It’s always nice when we can accompany my mom to her events. My daughter and my husband were also in attendance to help support my mom. Not to mention that Consuelo felt it was important for her grand-daughter to learn more about her culture by taking part in the festivities.

A trip down Austin’s South Congress (SoCo) Street was a real treat, too. We munched on Mexican food, pizza by the slice, cupcakes, and Thai food from a food truck near the hotel. Good times, to say the least!

Our congratulations go out to the children of the Academia Cuauhtli. We sincerely thank them and the event organizers for their hospitality and for the opportunity to take part in such a special occasion. xo
